Tools of the Trade

Living with Type 1 Diabetes requires an incredible amount of knowledge. Doing it successfully requires applying that information in a variety of circumstances and doing it intelligently. Below are some of the resources I rely on.

Links

The 2017 American Diabetes Association Standards of Care is a compilation of best practices for living with and managing diabetes. While aimed at health care providers, it is a fantastic source of information for patients.

"A Day With Diabetes"
Using a Medtronic Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitor has a nice feature that I use to manage my Type 1 Diabetes: an online data analysis tool called "CareLink." In telling the story in that blog entry, you can look at the following reports to see what was happening to me that day.
  • Table Report (every piece of data about what happened that day - every blood glucose, sensor glucose reading, changes in basal rate, bolus, etc. This is the data that the insulin pump/CGM system manages and is the basis for the reports below. In this case, it was 537 events.)
  • Daily Summary Report (a one page picture of what happened that day.)
  • Sensor Daily Overlay Report
